This Swine Life: Hog Named Six Seven Spared by Miami-Dade Mayor.
Although not quite at the identical stature as sparing festive fowl, but the mayor of Miami-Dade experienced a Donald Trump moment this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“The swine has done no wrong. She deserves this act of mercy. Her criminal record is spotless,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with obvious nods to the sheer volume of executive clemencies issued from the start of the commencement of a new presidential term.
“Except perhaps for eating half a dozen apples per day,” the mayor added. “I hope she experiences a prosperous future free from concern.”
The gathering, simultaneously observing and challenging the local cultural practice of eating roast pork during the holidays, was founded to mirror the yearly bird sparing at the White House.
The animal, contributed by a first responder, was named for the current slang trend of young people exclaiming “6-7” – deriving from a rap song lyric – often for no discernable reason. The craze became so ubiquitous that a major dictionary recently made “6-7” its top term for the year.
A Future Secured
The pardoned swine is now scheduled to spend its days at a rural sanctuary “away from grills and cookware”, according to the event’s official press release.
“The annual pig pardon has become one of our favorite ways to open the holiday season,” said the cafe owner, in a notably cheerful message.
“It represents the essence of Miami: joyful, multicultural, and based in heritage that unite the community. Each year, we are delighted to mark heritage and mercy in a way distinctively Miamian.”
Guests enjoyed a meat-free selection of spinach fritters and Cuban coffee as they marked the pig's pardon.
