The Latest Relaxed Game Mode Ignites Intense Debates Over Bots, XP Rewards, and Queue Times

Recently, Battlefield Studios launched a new playlist titled Relaxed Breakthrough. To put it simply, this mode resembles the regular Breakthrough setup but includes a few key adjustments:

  • Every squad has just 8 human participants, with the rest filled by AI-controlled opponents.
  • Actions done by human gamers award complete experience points, while AI activities offer lower rewards.
  • Just a pair of locations are available: Cairo Siege and Empire State map.
  • Elements like Dogtags, achievements, and stat tracking have been turned off.

So essentially, this mode delivers on its name: it offers a laid-back take of Breakthrough. On the surface, one could assume it's a good idea, since it provides additional choices for players looking for different methods to have fun with the title. However, if video games have taught us anything, it's that you can't please everyone. In other words, a lot of BF6 players are mad.

Player Responses: From Fury to Support

"Gamers prefer real players. Avoid making the mistakes of your competitors," states a response to the official announcement. "Truly disappointing idea," says another. At the same time, on the Battlefield subreddit, one user remarks, "I have no idea where we are going with this title," while someone else lists all the issues they believe to be broken in Battlefield 6: "Fix bugs, fix drone glitch, fix IVF rockets, adjust aiming after sprinting, improve hit detection. We do not require this AI-heavy playlist."

However, for every complaint, some gamers sharing how much they're liking the new mode. "It's very fun to practice, real players keep it from being a complete grind but it's very relaxed," says one Reddit comment. "This subreddit fails to see that there are gamers who have lives and can't play this title all the time. Let them strike a balance," adds a different comment. A response on Twitter clarifies that as they're "a battledad with busy schedules, this is perfect for me," while someone else applauds the mode for "not being overcompetitive."

Valid Criticisms and Community Input

All that said, players have valid points to criticize the new mode. Some users have pointed out that it will make wait times more extended for different playlists because of the large amount of playlists in the game already. On a similar note, certain regions already encounter AI-filled matches in the existing playlists. Additionally, it appears somewhat counterintuitive that the mode won't start without a minimum number of human gamers, despite it primarily centers on combat against bots.

Finally, one of the biggest complaints is that a previous feature was promised to offer full XP, including AI matches, but that was removed when they tried to eliminate XP farming from the system. Thus Casual Breakthrough seems like the player base compromising in the middle, according to a Reddit comment. A different user describes this addition as the devs "making a mistake significantly, I had so much fun in the first couple of days, what prompted them to change it?"

Looking Ahead: Will Changes Occur?

Should Battlefield Studios has demonstrated something to date with the latest installment, it is that they're paying attention and responding to feedback. Tasks that were overly hard were adjusted very quickly, as did the required Redsec challenges. Chances are that, if their data indicates this new playlist isn't performing to their expectations, they will not hesitate to change it again.
