Micky van de Ven found the net twice as Tottenham prolonged their winning streak on the road in the top division and handed Everton their initial loss at their new home.

Everton were undefeated in their five previous fixtures at their new ground at the dockside location, having departed their historic home behind after 133 years at the conclusion of the previous campaign.

But Spurs captain Van de Ven struck on two occasions from corners in the first half to put their impressive record at jeopardy, and they were failed to turn it around before the midfielder - assisted by former Toffees attacker Richarlison - nodded in a final goal to put the game to bed.

Jake O'Brien thought he had equalized the tally five minutes after the defender's first goal, directing a powerful header past Guglielmo Vicario from an set-piece.

Beto, in the meantime, missed a handful of chances, while Vicario made a series of excellent stops to guarantee Tottenham went five away games without defeat in the Premier League.

But the video assistant referee intervened, instructing Craig Pawson to review the goal on the pitchside monitor and the official ruled that Jack Grealish and Iliman Ndiaye were in an illegal position and had interfered with the Spurs keeper.

The win moves the manager's side up to third in the Premier League, a handful of points off north London rivals and table-toppers Arsenal.

The Merseyside club stay 14th and sit six points clear of the relegation zone.

Tottenham analysis: The defender excels in role at each end of the field

Following a drab weekday display in the Champions League against Monaco, where they managed a mere two shots on target, Frank chose Randal Kolo Muani in attack instead of ex-Everton forward the Brazilian.

The summer signing was failed to make much of an impact before being replaced for Richarlison after 60 minutes on the field, but it turns out he proved unnecessary in the end.

Defender Van de Ven converted into an attacking force to be reckoned with.

Spurs' first goal came from a well-worked corner routine, with Rodrigo Bentancur heading the ball back across the face of goal for an unmarked Van de Ven to head home.

And Ven de Ven - filling in as skipper in the Argentine's unavailability - notched his second in first-half stoppage time as he rose above the England keeper to head home.

Van de Ven was equally outstanding in defence, combining well with his defensive colleague as the duo dealt excellently with the 34 crosses thrown their way by the opposition.

Everton analysis: Toffees missing finishing touch

The club's new home had been a happy hunting ground, but it seems the freshness may have faded somewhat and supporters headed to the exits after Sarr's third for Tottenham.

The break in Everton's winning streak at home won't be a massive concern for David Moyes, but their striker situation are.

Beto and Thierno Barry - the Everton's pair of established centre-forwards - had netted only one league goal between them before the weekend's outing.

And they were failed to contribute to that miserable tally on a damp and dreary night on in Liverpool.

Beto's performance was epitomized when he chose to overhead kick a clear chance from near the goal, despite having room and time to readjust for a simpler attempt that would have tested Vicario.

The substitute, as well, failed to influence the game after coming on for Beto in the second half.

It wasn't for a shortage of chance. The majority of Everton's attacks came through the winger and the forward, who relentlessly whipped threatening crosses into the Tottenham penalty area.
