'It's like they never miss a pass': Swansea's Galbraith resumes clash with City.

Ethan Galbraith grins broadly as he recalls the nail-biting final moments of his team's remarkable turnaround triumph against Nottingham Forest in the League Cup. The encounter culminated with Galbraith temporarily wearing a fan's glasses amid the pitch-side pile-on.

With the clock ticking into the 97th minute, Galbraith cracked the upright with a long-range shot from distance, and the defender quickly converted the loose ball before charging toward the home end to mark the goal, with fans congregating around the players.

Remarkable Recovery

This capped an incredible recovery given Swansea had been behind 2-0 midway through the final 45 minutes. In the delirium, there was some unintended consequences. The midfielder recalled, "There was a supporter trying to get our attention and myself and Keysy [Josh Key] were puzzled: 'What's he on about here?' Then we saw the glasses. It was a funny incident putting them on. We are on the pitch as athletes but we're individuals, too, so to have a bit of craic with the fans is always good."

Manchester City Challenge

The victory booked a upcoming fixture at home against Manchester City on Wednesday, a club Galbraith pushed hard at the same stage of the FA Cup with the London side in February. Galbraith had a prime vantage point when Orient took the lead in spectacular fashion, with the attacker's long-range effort from about 45 yards going in via the crossbar and the City goalkeeper. It seems unfair that it was deemed an own goal.

"You would have wished they would've given it to him for having a go from that distance," stated Galbraith, who played in the middle before shifting to right wing-back after they changed shape. That meant competing with Jack Grealish, with whom he swapped shirts, and the winger was among the Manchester squad who paid tribute to the way Orient attacked the game.

Guardiola's System

"Fitness-wise they are outstanding but even the basics and routine actions, they can just do it over and over again," the midfielder notes. "It feels like they always find their target and they are adept at control and slow down a game. You can think you're holding your own and then abruptly they will just deliver a through ball between defenders without you even noticing. You have to be switched on every second of the game. It takes a resilient mindset and concentration just to keep pace."

Swansea Move

Swansea pushed to sign Galbraith in January and secured his signature to bring him in in the summer in a £1.5m deal. He made a name as a crowd pleaser across two seasons at his former club and has swiftly done the same in Wales. At the London club he linked up again with his former manager, who four years ago gave Galbraith his first extended run in senior football on loan at a League One side from United. Then came a temporary move at lower division the Manchester club, before he permanently left Manchester United.

Development Path

"I was likely a bit naive going into senior level. I think many athletes would say under-23s football is entirely separate. Sometimes it seems the ball is moved without serious challenge. There's not many physical contests. Once you start playing men's games you have to adapt rapidly."

National Team Success

His progress reflects that maturation for both domestically and internationally, shining for Northern Ireland, who are fighting to qualify for the World Cup next summer via the qualifying rounds and for whom he has started the recent fixtures, including two matches encounters against the German national team. His former international manager, Galbraith's ex- international manager, gave him the supreme accolade, saying he was Northern Ireland's "little Iniesta or Xavi" given how he controls possession and his knack for a decisive through ball.

Early Days

It has been an incredible journey for the kid from the Queens Park estate in his hometown, just outside Northern Ireland's main city, who used to see his parent, his father, also a midfielder, play for a local club.

Old Trafford Memory

Galbraith's single match for Manchester United came in Kazakhstan in 2019, a European competition trip to Astana, where they featured on an plastic turf and the arena covering was sealed owing to temperatures of bitter cold. "That proved to be a long trip and it was freezing," he recalls, chuckling. "The preceding week, the academy prospects trained together, so that helped us acclimatise. Just to accompany the senior squad and get a couple of minutes at the end was amazing."

Leaving United

What was the challenge was it to leave United, the club he joined from Linfield aged 16? "The decision proved fairly simple, because I reached the point where I knew I couldn't establish myself at the senior squad. I'm very appreciative for the years at the club but it became apparent where I believed I required a fresh start, move to a lower level and play men's football. Now I'm slowly climbing the ladder."

New Environment

This occurs during the early part of the afternoon at the team's practice facility but Galbraith has somewhere to be at the early evening: a road rules assessment, another progress toward getting on the road. Before his recent move to the local area, the young professional was a frequent passenger in Swansea's so-called team minibus, a team vehicle driven by team personnel, the drivers, which shuttles players to and from practice and games.

"I travel with Gonçalo Franco, another squad member, the midfielder – a former passenger used to be in it but has begun using his own car. It's pleasant to spend time with the teammates but I'm planning to be the following person out of the minibus and behind the wheel. His teammate enjoys practical jokes; he's frequently playing tricks."

Public Engagement

While playing for Leyton Orient, Galbraith would blend in with followers on public transport after starting his journey at his base. "I tried|I attempted|My aim
