Arne Slot Maintains He Is Safe and Has Liverpool's Backing Following PSV Eindhoven Humiliation
Arne Slot acknowledged that it's understandable for concerns to be asked about his future following another convincing loss versus the Dutch champions.
Liverpool endured their 9th loss in 12 matches, marking the team's worst run since being relegated in the 1953-54 season.
They were outplayed by the Eredivisie champions on a punishing night at their home ground.
“I feel secure, things are alright, I've received significant backing from above,” the coach commented.
“It's important to turn it around and earn three points obviously but when you're working as a coach and underperforming then it's expected that questions are asked.”
He continued, “I accept my position. This isn't the first time I've found myself in a difficult position but it's crucial that we improved our results.”
Discussions with Club Management
When asked to elaborate on his conversations with the Liverpool hierarchy, Slot explained:
“We talk a lot. They are supportive for the squad and for me and we discuss these matters but they don’t call me all the time each day to say they back me.”
He further stated, “In the normal conversations we have I feel the trust. However I haven’t spoken to them since this game yet so let’s see.”
Persistent Failings and Squad Reaction
Slot expressed regret over known shortcomings from his squad in their Champions League defeat, namely poor finishing and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was more forthright in his view of the team's situation.
“I haven't got the solutions. Honestly, I do not. I'm telling that to everybody,” the midfielder stated.
“It is unacceptable. I don’t even need to wait to reflect. I’m past being angry internally. I’m at the point currently where I just don’t have the phrases.”
He went on, “It’s hard because I play for the team I support. I'm a supporter, and I've watched this club all my life.”
“In a long, long time, I've not seen a Reds side experiencing a spell like this with results so bad.”
He stated, “However we still have the emblem on our shirts. And as long as that badge is taken away, we’re always going to battle.”
“We will attempt to get this team back to the top, prove once more what Liverpool stands for and why it's known as the top club in the planet.”
“However currently, we’re in the shit and we have to turn it around.”
